I was admitted to Edinburgh Royal A&E recently with severe abdominal pain. This happened out of the blue and I’ve never had anything like this before.
I was seen by a nurse soon after arriving and moved to another area of A&E shortly thereafter. Here I had my bloods taken and an ECG taken also before a bit of a wait to see the doctor.
In the meantime I was given a great standard of care by all, but a special mention to nurse Craig and also to his two other nursing colleagues on that night that I have forgotten (My apologies!). They looked after me and ensured that I was kept as pain free as possible before the doctor assessed me.
A&E was exceptionally busy but I was assured that this wasn’t as busy as it could get which was mind blowing. Everyone was a credit to themselves and the NHS to still have a smile on their faces and having a can do attitude!
I was then admitted to surgical observational unit where once again the standard of care was fantastic. Can’t fault all members of the various teams that I met and thank goodness for our NHS.
"Great care under immense pressure"
