"Prompt and excellent care"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

I fell and broke my ankle and went to A&E where I received prompt and excellent care.

I was seen within 5 minutes, I was assessed, given pain relief, went for a X-ray, I was then seen by orthopaedic doctors who advised I would need to be sedated so they could put bones back into place and my ankle would need to go in plaster and I would have to return for an operation once swelling had reduced. I had never had sedation of any kind before or an operation.

The staff put me at ease and were with me at all times.

Within a few days, I received a phone call to return to hospital to Day Surgery Ward as they were hoping to do my op sometime that day.

I was met by staff nurse Julie who was amazing, She settled me in, explained everything to me and made sure I was as comfortable as possible.

Unfortunately my op could not go ahead that day due to emergencies,

Julie made sure that I was kept on the same ward and bed, she arranged food for me, pain relief and spoke to me and explained everything, Julie made sure, I was pain free and comfortable and anything I needed was never a problem.

I received my op the following day. I was well taken care of and Julie was amazing, making sure I was as comfortable as possible and helped me get on top of the pain and talked through a plan to make sure this happened,

When getting discharged, Julie explained what had happened at my surgery, what to expect on my next out patient appointment and arranged the issue of a medical certificate from the doctor for my work. She listened to any worries and questions and nothing was any bother.

I can’t thank Day Ward Surgery enough, everyone was so nice, so helpful, professional, it is such a busy Ward the nurses never stopped, but everyone made me feel nothing was a bother.

I would also like thank all the doctors, anaesthetist, surgeons and every nurse that looked after me.
