I had an appointment at Stracathro Day Surgery booked. I was nervous as I had been waiting since 2019 for this surgery. I had initially been turned down due to my weight of which I was never advised until December 2020 when I received a call from the admissions to see if my weight had changed. I advised no and was told I would go back to Ninewells. I was upset about the information at the time. I called the surgeon and asked why they did not tell me my weight was a problem at the time and he replied, they did not have a problem but it could have been the anaesthetist.
I have attended at least 4 pre op assessments for this procedure and was then offered a place in Glasgow at the Golden Jubilee and received a date for surgery. I then received a call from Golden Jubilee to say BMI was too high for them and operation cancelled. I then received letter for Stracathro for August 2023.
I arrived at the hospital totally unprepared. No slippers or gown, no medicine or insulin with me, fully expecting to get sent home again as my weight had not really changed.
I was pleasantly surprised when I got there. The staff were amazing in assuring me that it was not a problem at all. Their patience with me my whole visit put me at ease and feeling relaxed.
Please THANK ALL THE STAFF for making it a less frightening experience all round.
"My wait, frustration and final experience"
