After three days’ holiday in Bude, having travelled from Norwich, my husband and I both became ill, with my husband becoming increasingly unwell as the day went on.
I rang 111 and within an hour he was on his way to hospital in Barnstaple and admitted within the next hour, as the journey from Bude took 45 minutes. This was scary for him as he is elderly and suffers from Parkinson’s Disease and diabetes. I was quite anxious too and, as it turned out, we both had Covid. I recovered in an Airbnb we managed to book and he was looked after in the hospital as he was quite poorly from it.
They were wonderful, he was so well cared for. The standard of care surpassed Norwich, where he has been hospitalised twice. When he was discharged 11 days later the discharge team were also wonderful and caring, nothing was too much trouble for them.
I am extremely grateful for all their help and support over a fraught, anxious period.
