"Stopping smoking"

About: Smoke Free Hull

(as a service user),

My mum died of lung cancer April this year after a treatment of radiotherapy and a year long battle. I used to go round for a brew and a fag 3 or more times a day but now my smoking partner had died what could I do to help myself. 5 times I tried to quit and  x5 times I failed but this was different. I felt ready, to quit, nervous but determined.

Well now 6 weeks later I am smoke free.  I used patches and after some wobbles at the beginning with them not sticking I got into a routine. I feel so proud of myself.  It's been hard but after 3 weeks it's got easier then by the time my 3rd patch was due I'd done it only had it on a week but felt ok to just let it go.

I'm ok I'm sad and grieving but I finally did it xx

Thanks to Dave my cessation chappy for his weekly support xxx

Hello Jan ada,

Thank you for sharing your story and experiences becoming smokefree with our service. We're really sorry to hear of your loss, it must have been hard navigating a quit whilst grieving as well. However your determination and willpower has paid off, and you should be really proud of your achievement in this difficult time. We know how hard it is to stop smoking, but with the right support, and the right motivation it can be done, and you are proof of that!

Congratulations again on being smokefree!

Dave will be really happy to hear you're still doing well. Take care.

SmokeFree Hull Team
