"Why are sick children given such a bad internet experience?"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh)

(as a parent/guardian),

In a ward where children have to sit in isolation, watching the treatments affecting their faculties, their bodies, their health and isolate them from their friends and family, it is hard to imagine a worse thing than to also subject them to the Wifi-Spark hospital WIFI.

Why does the wifi for kids require a password? Nobody is here by choice to pinch internet! Why does it kick the kids off the wifi after some random time between 4-15 minutes in length?

As a software developer, experienced in both web 2.0 and web 3.0 I feel sadly I know the answers and I find it difficult to contain my disappointment that such a terrible service would be provided to such a needy group.

I am not alone, all the parents and staff on the wards are in agreement, we are pointed to this website to complain so it is my hope that this does not fall on deaf ears.

Dear Alajx87,

My name is Claire and I work for the Patient experience Team for NHS Lothian. Firstly let me thank you for sharing your feedback with us via Care Opinion.

I was sorry to read that you have experienced these issues with the wi-fi access at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, particularly with the password and time access to the service.

I have liaised with Digital Operations about your feedback, who have explained that when the RHCYP moved to the new site the configuration of Guest Wireless here is different to the rest of NHS Lothian.

NHS Lothian are in the process of changing that configuration and it is anticipated that within 6 months the way Guest Wireless works at this site will be the same as the rest of NHS Lothian.

I am sorry this is not a quick fix but I hope that some reassurance is given that it is being looked into and that a change is in process.

Once again thank you for your feedback,

Best wishes,

Claire
