"Pet Therapy"

About: Hopewood

(as a service user),

When I was a patient on phoenix ward at Hopewood CAMHS I benefited massively from the pet therapy visits.

Spending time with the chihuahuas was very therapeutic and helped me build my confidence and social skills. I hope young people who are patients on the CAMHS wards can continue to benefit from the pet therapy

Gratitude for Sharing Your Care Dog Visit Experience 🐢🌟

Hello,

I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for taking the time to share your thoughts about the recent Care Dog Volunteer visit at Hopewood CAMHS. Your feedback is truly valuable, and it's heartening to know that you had a positive experience with our furry companion.

While these visits aren't officially classified as pet therapy, they undeniably offer a therapeutic dimension that can be quite transformative. Engaging with our Care Dog Volunteer can significantly contribute to bolstering confidence and refining social skills – it's truly remarkable how animals can play such an encouraging role.

Your expressed aspiration for more individuals, particularly those on the CAMHS wards, to partake in these visits deeply resonates with the Volunteering Team priorities this year. In line with this, I'm excited to share that we're actively expanding our team of Care Dog Volunteers across our Trust. This effort aims to extend the benefits of these interactions to a wider range of patients in our hospitals.

Your feedback underscores the significance of these visits, and we're committed to making them accessible to more individuals who can derive comfort and positivity from them. Once again, thank you for your insights and for shedding light on the value of these interactions. Here's to many more heart-warming moments with our four-legged friends!

Warm regards,

Hi

Further to my response above, I wanted to update about the changes we have made since the posting. We have interviewed 8 new volunteers and their four legged friends to join our growing team of Care Dog Volunteers and looking to recruit more so that each inpatient unit has access to a volunteer.

Just a quick update, we have now recruited and placed 11 furry friends and their owners. These fabulous pairings now cover, our inpatient units in Mansfield and Nottingham (AMH/MHSOP) and our secure hospitals, Rampton, Wathwood and the Wells Road Centre.
