My 16-week-old daughter was not gaining weight as expected. She was exclusively breastfed and I was determined to maintain that, as I breastfed my other two children until they were two, and I know how important it is for health and nutrition.
Jenni and the paediatric staff were supportive in this and saw us on a weekly basis, advising on feeding, pumping, routine etc. However, after several weeks of little/no weight gain, I was advised to give my daughter one bottle of formula per day. I was disheartened by this advice, but Jenni was very supportive and I trusted she had our breastfeeding goals, as well as my daughter's development, in mind.
We used the formula top-up for six weeks, during which time my daughter climbed enough centiles to come off it, as solids were then established. I'm pleased to report that 7 months later my daughter is still exclusively breastfed and is on 50th centile for all her measurements.
Jenni's support and encouragement around breastfeeding has contributed to our family's wellbeing, as well as the very important breastfeeding statistics in NI. Even after my daughter was out of the danger zone and we stopped the formula, Jenni checked in with us regularly to monitor her diet and give advice on weaning. This was greatly appreciated and we felt very well looked after.
"Support and encouragement that has contributed to our family's wellbeing"
