"My cancer journey"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary / Breast surgery Doncaster Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology Doncaster Royal Infirmary / Oncology

(as a service user),

I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. The support I got from all the staff was absolutely amazing.  I think I've been through most departments in the Trust now.

Firstly,  to thank all the staff at Jasmine for delivering the news so sensitively and enabling me to take time during my consultation to take this in and give me time to think and ask questions. The ladies who carried out my mammogram, and took ultrasound scans and biopsies. All of them were amazing. Prof Wylde was so lovely and attentive.

The CT staff, MRI staff were all amazing and were so professional and caring. I always had my dignity protected which in this situation to me was paramount.
The theatre staff were amazing at putting me at ease. In the anaesthetic room, they all spoke to me and asked me how I felt. Then I didn't even realise I'd had my operation until I woke up from a lovely sleep. The recovery staff were very attentive and did their best to ensure I was comfortable.
I was then moved to G5, I was expecting to go home the same day but unfortunately some things don't go to plan. The nursing team that night (sorry, I cannot remember names) were so reassuring and explained not everything will go to plan and I accepted that. The discharge the next day was smooth and I got given telephone numbers for advice if I had any issues.
I had my chemotherapy at Chatsfield and the whole team became a family to me. Being there on a weekly basis, everyone knew each other on a first name basis which was so comforting as we all need reassurance during such a tiring/ stresssful time. I was told what to expect during the next few months and the team talked me through the side effects. The Chatsfield Suite is an asset to the Trust! Each and every single one member was an absolute diamond. So supportive and did not rush any time if I had questions/ queries or were in general struggling. I cannot thank them enough.
Even after finishing my Chemotherapy, I will not forget any of them.
So caring, professional and amazing.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences at the Trust during your cancer journey. I am so pleased to hear how happy you were with the care you received by staff across all the departments you visited. It must have been a scary time for you, but I'm so proud of our staff for their attentive care supporting you through this difficult time.

I will share your lovely words with staff involved in your care, I know they will be moved by your kind words.

Best wishes,

Laura
