"Ambulance Service"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

My daughter has been unwell with a sick bug, she deteriorated quickly this morning. While I was on the phone to nhs 24 because I was concerned about her things took a turn and we couldn’t wake her up. The lovely lady at nhs 24 sent an ambulance straight away. They were here within 20 minutes (felt like 3 days) and the 2 paramedics were genuinely amazing.

I was in a state of panic and they reassured me continuously and they spent a long time making sure my daughter was ok. She came round and was doing ok but her blood sugars were really low and she was again sick after food so they took us into RACH.

It seems like she had a hypo because her sugars were so low because she can’t keep food or drink down. We are home again and she’s doing good but the genuine care from the paramedics and other staff was amazing. In a time where all I hear is bad about the NHS I wanted to post the positive. Thank you so much to Iain and (I think) Marcus. Marcus had a way with kids that’s special.

Thank you.

Dear Worried mum 111

Thanks for sharing what sounds like a hugely worrying story. I'm so pleased your daughter is doing better. The ambulance crew who attended sound great and clearly left a hugely positive impression on you.

I'm also pleased our NHS 24 staff member recognised the severity of the situation and requested ambulance attendance. Similar to the Scottish Ambulance Service, we also like to share such stories with the staff involved. Therefore, if you would be kind enough to contact me with some additional detail, I would be pleased to do this. You can email Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk or you can call me on 07814 299944.

Best wishes to you both and take care.

Shona
