"These ladies made an absolutely terrifying day, great."

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Breast Clinic University Hospital Wishaw / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

I came into Wishaw University Hospital Day Surgery for Surgery on my Breast cancer. From the instant I arrived I was met by the most amazing team of nurses and health care staff I could imagine. Sandra, Gwen, Shona, May and my Tracey were just fantastic. I was treated with so much dignity and respect. Nothing was too much trouble for the girls and their care and attention were second to none.

My consultant and anaesthesiologist came to see me and prepared me for my surgery. Ms Obondo was out of this world, Dr Bell (?) and Tamas were fantastic. Shannon my theatre nurse held my hand when I needed it and gave me a good giggle while Tamas put me to sleep for a few hours. For that I’ll be forever grateful.

Unfortunately due to anaesthetic brain I’ve forgotten the name of the nurse that woke me up but she was great and consoled me when I began crying (for no reason!). All I remember was thinking she was beautiful.

Tea was on tap in recovery and sandwiches provided.

If I’d paid privately for Brest cancer care, or really any sort of care, I don’t believe I’d have got better.

These ladies made an absolutely terrifying day great. They had be laughing and joking and were my friends throughout.

I can’t thank you all enough for what you do. How you do it I don’t know but I know you do it well and no one can match you.

I can’t thank everyone enough

And

Tracey thank you for being my friend yesterday.

Dear Alison234,

Thank you for sharing your experience in University Hospital Wishaw, Day Surgery.

It can be a worrying time attending hospital and even more so for breast cancer surgery. I am so pleased to hear that Sandra, Gwen, Shona, May and Tracey went above and beyond to support you during this. It sounds like they really upheld NHS Lanarkshire's values and this made you feel safe and at ease.

I am also pleased to hear such positive comments about Dr Obondo, Dr Bell and Tamas, as well as Shannon and the nurse who brought you round after anaesthetic. I am so glad that you were comforted when you needed to be and the small personal touches our staff put in every day have made such a big difference in supporting you during your surgery.

I will be delighted to share this positive feedback and your kind words and praise with the whole team. It is encouraging for our staff to feel recognised and I am sure this feedback will give both those who you have named and the wider team a much needed boost.

I hope you are recovering well.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
