"Endocrine services"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Endocrinology

(as a service user),

I feel I have had abysmal care from this service in the last 3 years. I have spoken to the consultant twice in 3 years. It has taken up to 5 months to receive a letter where someone has completed a virtual review and instigated a change in medication.

I have now been given too high a dose of medication and now experiencing symptoms of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. This is making me feel incredibly unwell, where I have had to take time off work I can’t afford.

The endocrine nurse is off sick and it seems there is no one willing to help. I have to wait until they return which is an unknown time period.

A 5 minute telephone call from someone else i.e. the consultant apparently is not possible. I’m now going to be waiting another long period of time

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us.

I am saddened to hear that you have had such a negative experience with the Endocrinology department. I am sorry to see that you have had a lack of communication over the last 3 years and that the change in your medication has resulted in you having symptoms that are making you feel so unwell. It also saddens me to see that for feel no one is willing to help whilst the Endocrine nurse is off sick.
