"Everyone put me at ease"

About: The Princess Royal Maternity Unit / Maternity care (wards 68, 72 &73)

(as the patient),

I had an emergency C-section in June and was given excellent care on the run up to this from my midwife Georgina, and then afterwards by all the staff on ward 68, particularly midwife Beth and student midwife, Megan.

I had a previous traumatic birth and was very nervous about going through it a second time. I had opted for a C-section as the baby was measuring very big but went into labour before my scheduled section date. Everyone in the theatre put me at ease and chatted with me throughout.

My experience was like day and night with my previous birth, I felt like I was listened to, and helped with breastfeeding, and I received a lot of help with my baby so I was able to get a few hours sleep at night, whereas before I was very much left to it.

I just wanted to thank them all because it's a hard job and I know they are often understaffed.

Dear SarahW367,

Thank you for sharing your story on care opinion. I am sorry to hear that your first birth was traumatic. Your second baby was obviously keen to appear early! I am delighted that despite experiencing an unplanned birth the staff were supportive and put you at ease during it all. I will share you kind comments with Georgia, Beth, her student Megan and the wider PRM team.

Best Wishes,

Tracy Orr

Lead Midwife
