"Organising my medication for going on holiday."

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as a service user),

Hi it was at the end of June. I was going on holiday at the beginning of July. I needed 2 weeks of my medication to go on holiday. I normally call my GP 3 to 4 days before I go on holiday to ask my GP to allow me to get 2 weeks instead of 1 week of my pills & my GP to call my pharmacy to get them to give me 2 weeks. I need to call the week before I go on holiday. If I call GP too early (over a week before I go they will not give them to me). So I called my GP the week prior to my holiday. Only to be allowed to ask my GP about my pills.

I tried to explain to the receptionist this is how I've done it this way for well over 8-9 years. They still refused to help me. Because of the lack of help or understanding (from the receptionist) of the situation I had to go on holiday without enough medication. In the end I had no pills for 2 & half days without any of my pills especially my pain killer & my antidepressants. The receptionist was so bad that I had to pass the phone to my wife to finish the call because they nearly had me crying due to a panic attack which they caused.

Dear Spambo,

Thank you for sharing your experience on Care Opinion.

I am sorry to hear of the challenges you have experienced trying to obtain your medication for your holiday, and for the anxiety this must have caused you. We always want to make things better for patients. GP’s are independent contractors and are responsible for investigating and responding to any concerns a person may have about the service; they are not registered to respond directly to feedback through Care Opinion. Can I please invite you to contact the Practice Manager if you would like a direct response about the service or you can also contact Primary Care Patient Affairs, I have included their contact details.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
