Ward doctor, Speech therapist, Dietician, didn’t know my mother was registered blind.
She is also diabetic and was always asked if she wanted sugar in her tea. Obviously not the fault of ladies serving tea - they wouldn’t know she was diabetic. I had to ask for this information to be written above her bed.
Mums dressing gown went missing. Never found.
Dentures went missing. I really had to push to get anyone to look for them. Without dentures she couldn’t eat what had been ordered. Thankfully I was there and could go buy her something else otherwise blood sugars would have gone haywire.
Twice Mum was told that she’d be going home, without care package in place this was impossible so twice an unnecessary amount of stress has been caused.
I realise shortage of staff made it difficult to take her to toilet with walking aid but several times staff were used. If she loses ability to walk then care package at home would not be feasible.
I am exceptionally grateful for the care she has received and especially for one of the companions who made her feel safe.
The diabetic nurse was exceptional in her passion and care of Mum. She did more in these two weeks than any diabetic nurse has done in last twenty years.
Staff certainly need encouragement and help.
Thanks for noting these things and I trust that others won’t have the same difficulties.
"Thanks for noting these things"
