"Waiting times"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency

(as a service user),

Arrived in A&E after self transferring after being seen by an ambulance due to my young daughter spiking a temp of 40 degrees and unable to be woken for an hour with only response lifting her eyebrows.

By the time the ambulance arrived temp had dropped to 39.4 and she was more alert, so drove in. After an hour we were triaged and told a 2 hour wait.

I now have a young child asleep across two seats at 23:00 at night and have just been told wait time increased to 4 hours. In my view, this is not an acceptable way to treat anyone, let alone children.

Dear conditionerqj37

Thank you for taking the time to post about you and your child's recent experience in our Emergency Department during what must have been a really distressing time for you both. I'm so sorry to learn of the length of time your daughter waited to be seen.

Our triage target time is within 15 minutes of arrival and I am sorry that we were unable to meet this target on this occasion. The waiting time in the Emergency department does fluctuate due to multiple reasons and the purpose of triage is to ensure that all patients are seen in order of clinical priority, allowing us to provide the safest levels of care possible. I am reassured that you were kept informed of the changing waiting time but fully understand how frustrating that may be.

I would like to assure you this is not the experience we want to provide for our patients, we are currently experiencing significant demand on our services and we are working tirelessly to improve and prevent patient experiences such as the one you have described.

Please accept our apologies for the negative experience, I sincerely hope your daughter has recovered and thank you once again for sharing this feedback.
