"Lack of care in A+E"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I was admitted to A+E Majors via Category 2 ambulance following multiple seizures.

1st - I was put in a corner where I couldn’t be seen by nursing staff or doctors at the nurses station. (There were lots of empty bays upon arrival)

2nd - when having seizures whilst admitted my partner pressed the call buzzer multiple times. No-one came into the room to assist my partner during the convulsions.

3rd - when someone (a porter) came in 5-ish mins after each episode we were told the charge nurse would be made aware of what’s happening and would come in to see us.

4th- not only did the charge nurse not come into the cubicle at all nor send an alternative nurse, they proceeded to inaccurately record the time the seizures started and failed to record the further two I had whilst under their care.

5th- I was taken to hospital to rule out any damage caused by the seizures. We already know the cause. The tests were only done to deem the cause of the seizures. Since my discharge I have continued to have facial and verbal tics (new to me and never had them before) there were no scans or further checks to ensure no damage. For the record I had 7 seizures within 1hr 10mins and a further 2 approximately 4 hours later.

Due to the ongoing symptoms I do not feel everything was checked carefully and thoroughly. I am now having to wait on a GP referral to check for anything more serious and as we all know that will take approximately 1 month minimum.
