"Childhood asthma"

About: General Practices in D&G

(as a parent/guardian),

My child has struggled with respiratory illness most of their life. With multiple visits to ED and our GP for antibiotics, steroids, inhalers etc. My child has been given inhalers for asthma with no guidance on how to use these or review in place for a check up from their GP or respiratory clinic. When approached recently by their school for a care plan our GP refused to give this as my child didn’t have asthma. Nobody can tell me why my child has been given all this medication and treatment when they apparently do not have the condition. I was advised a referral had been done for paediatric outpatients for an asthma review however, when I contacted my (new) GP for something else months later, they could tell me no referral had been done. They then completed this while I waited but this added to our wait time for an appt, all the time my child was still struggling with respiratory issues.

My child has recently attended the paediatrician, who cannot understand why they have been given the medicines involved for treatment of asthma without any form of investigation, no peak flow readings, no physical examination just handed a prescription from a phone consultation.

I’ve tried to get in touch with the practice manager to discuss this issue to no avail, they seem to avoid my calls, cancelled appointments to chat and has ignored any correspondence so this is my last attempt to get an answer, as my child is being severely let down by lack of care/compassion from this practice.
