About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Clinical Decision Unit

(as a parent/guardian),

We have been at hospital every month for the last 7-8 months with our now 1 year old.

Today at the CDU department the nurses have been amazing but the doctor didn't seem to want to listen to our concerns or know about the constant visits to AnE. I think taking 5-10 minutes before checking a patent, gaining a background of patients allows doctors to empathize with parents worries and concerns.

I understand the NHS is busy but my 1 year old isn't less of a person, we are in AnE every month, to be so quick so dismiss us when we didn't agree with them causes more anxiety and stress on our family.

We want to get to the bottom of our child's larger issue not just pump pain killers and antibodies in her forever and hope for the best. Putting a plaster on a broken pipe doesn't work and that fits for our situation at the moment because all these trips and the same cycle keeps happening.

Dear Dadof2,

I am very sorry to hear of your recent experience whilst in our care. This is not the type of experience we would like those who are in our care to have.

On behalf of the team at Royal Hospital for Children I would like to apologise that you felt your concerns weren't listened to and you were dismissed quickly which caused you anxiety and stress.

I would be keen to discuss this with you further and to help with any of your concerns especially as you feel you have not got an answer to your concerns with your child and you may require to return to the hospital in the future.

My email is emma.mcginlay@ggc.scot.nhs.uk and I would be happy for you to contact me directly via this email.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback as this helps us to improve and learn as we aim to ensure all of our patients and families have the best possible experience while in our care.

Many thanks

Emma McGinlay

Lead Nurse
