"Staff timekeeping and excuses"

About: North Ayrshire Health & Social Care Partnership / Community Mental Health Team (Adult) Three Towns Resource Centre / General Psychiatry

(as the patient),

Today I had an appointment with the mental health team.

To say it was bad is an understatement. I arrived on plenty of time for my appointment and waited, waited and waited! I eventually went to the reception desk to enquire if anyone was going to see me. As I did so, two staff members walk in.

I’m told by the nice receptionist, they are the people who’ll see me.

Another 5 minutes later, I get called in. All in I waited more than 20 minutes to be seen by them.

I’m given what I call a feeble excuse that they were stuck in traffic. If that was the case, why didn’t someone call ahead, and explain to patients waiting they were delayed? Bit of courtesy goes a long way.

My anxiety was through the roof, I was defensive and angry at the way they just swanned in with no care in the world.

This is not the first time I’ve had issues with this place. I previously discharged myself due to staff being bad on timekeeping and also lack of communication among other things.

My opinion is that staff I've encountered here lack any empathy, understanding and simply the ability to be nice.

I feel more than depressed and have been suicidal yet it feels like these staff couldn’t care less.

It’s about time staff actually showed some care for their patients and stop having an obnoxious attitude. I’m now feeling awful mentally, and not doing so good. I made an effort to be there, as meeting others is a massive issue for me. Yet I’m left feeling like this due to two strangers!

Also one staff member's phone was pinging while I was there! The phones should have been put on silent before a patient went in. Not very professional at all.
