"Broken wrist"

About: Outpatients / Fracture Clinic Stirling Care Village / Minor injuries unit

(as the patient),

I'm 64, healthy and quite fit. I was rushing to take the washing in, lost my footing and fell backwards. I put out my left hand to stop my fall and landed heavily. I knew I'd hurt myself and my husband helped me up (never needed ever before). Next day my hand was very swollen and bruised and we went to Minor Injuries in Stirling. We made an appointment through the GP and I was seen immediately, x-rayed (twice) and then talked through what had been found. I'd broken my wrist and was fitted with a splint.

The staff were professional, kind, and helpful. The atmosphere was good throughout the unit. They explained I would hear from the fracture clinic within 4 days and I was called within this time by a nurse who told me my x-rays had been reviewed and I needed cast. She gave me an appointment the next day and went out of her way to help find a time that worked as I had to pick up my grandson.

Larbert Hospital was easy to find and all areas were clean and welcoming. Again I was seen quickly and the plaster nurse (Claire) was very helpful and calm. She was concerned that the splint I had initially been given may have been too small and my hand was very swollen but after a brief wait she plastered my arm and gave me the information I needed to look after it. I then saw the doctor who explained why I needed a cast and gave me a Fit to Work notice as I couldn't work until the cast was removed. Everyone was professional and positive. I felt really involved and I felt I was given clear information about what happened and why. I've never broken a bone and I'm struggling a bit with the restricted mobility but my care was first class and my experiece was so positive.

Good morning Jancd94

Apologies for the delay responding to your recent care opinion.

Thank you for taking time to share feedback in the minor injuries unit and ease of obtaining an appointment through your GP. This will be shared with the team.

As Kevin has highlighted it is reassuring that all aspects of your care have been patient centred and positive.

I am sure you are now well on the road to recovery now and I hope this continues

Take care

Tracey
