"Colonoscopy at Raigmore Hospital"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

I was booked to have an endoscopy and colonoscopy with sedation.

I have the endoscopy first and was adequately sedated for this procedure as wasn’t aware it had been done. But when it was finished and time to do the colonoscopy the effects of the sedation had completely worn off, so I had to endure the whole procedure of the colonoscopy without any sedation.

It was very uncomfortable and painful at times.  A nurse was doing their best to help me relax by talking to me during the procedure, but all I wanted was the sedation to help me relax.

I was told I would be sedated for the whole procedure, I certainly didn’t expect the effects to wear off after the endoscopy.  It has left me feeling rather distressed that I had to endure that procedure with little or no sedation. I was fully awake and aware of everything, not happy with the whole thing at all, and certainly won’t be back that procedure, that's for sure.
