"The staff make you feel really welcome"

About: Hull ReNew

(as a service user),

I was spending £140 on cannabis and smoked this over a day and half. I can light up a joint every 5 minutes because I pre-roll. I have been smoking cannabis since I was 20 and I feel it has become a lot worse recently. I can smoke over 25 joints a day.

I have been working with Renew since February 2023 and was with one worker, but she has since left her role and I have been working with Shawnna since the beginning of April. She came into my last appointment with my old keyworker, which was nice, and introduced herself.

I have made a massive reduction in my cannabis and reduced to 10 joints a day and now I am 5 days abstinent, which I feel very proud about. I have been offered a naloxone kit free, HEP C tested and I am booked in for my HEP B vaccines. I have also had a health assessment with the nurse and been supported to call for food vouchers. I also am getting support for my mental health from Renew.

I have been made to feel comfortable by the people I have met, and supported to reduce cannabis. The staff make you feel really welcome and are non judgemental. I came for help and that’s exactly what they do help and support, given support and it is then up to us what we do with it..

That's fantastic to hear! Congratulations on making such a significant reduction in your cannabis consumption and achieving five days of abstinence. It's a great accomplishment, and you should be proud of yourself.

It's also wonderful to know that although your previous keyworker has left, you've found Shawnna to be helpful and supportive. The fact that she attended your last appointment with your old keyworker shows a seamless transition and dedication to your wellbeing.
