It all started as a normal bug with the sickness and stomach pain as an individual who suffers IBD gets regularly. I was really depressed and had lost all motivation for the things I loved to do and was started to affect my relationship with my partner.
After happening on and off for 6 months I contacted my team and begged for them to look further into it than before. I got admitted and was given painkillers and anti-sickness straight away to help me relax. They then got the scan and results the next day and it wasn’t the best results, as soon as we found out the problem a new treatment plan was quickly put into place to allow my health to start improving.
During all of this time the nurses I had both day and night were very attentive, especially as I was only allowed liquid they would ensure I never went without milk as I love a glass of milk. I wish they could have ice water but not to complain as that’s out with the doctors and nurses hands and they can’t control that.
Each nurse and doctor made sure to treat everyone as individuals and we would all have a laugh and giggle during the ward round to keep spirits high during an admission. I can’t thank them enough not just for getting answers but for helping me out of a dark place because I was starting to believe it was all in my head.
"Thank you for helping me out of a dark place"
