My brother has been very unwell over several months resulting in him being admitted numerous times to many wards and A&E, ARU,IAU . Relentless rounds of investigations and treatments. He is a an adult who can’t communicate and needs 24/7 care .
Two weeks ago he was admitted to ward 8D, and for the most great except for a worrying incident with the night staff not responding to his needs when having seizure activity It resulted in him having delayed medications and I had to talk to staff next day and raise a complaint , which is distressing and not helpful as complaining is not us . Luckily the quality of care improved and he responded to treatment.I asked for him to be discharged as quickly as possible .
So forward two weeks and we are back again , this time I was really worried after our experience last time.
Thankfully , the staff on A&E , ARU2 and ward 5B have been amazing . As a family we take part in his care when in hospital and see and are involved in as much as possible . This time we were included , wishes on behalf of my brother listened to and acted upon . The interventions were prompt and not delayed this time meaning he was not placed at greater risk or experiencing more symptoms . The staff didn’t just respond with professionalism and kindness, they were empathetic and knowledgeable offering more despite a busy workload .
Thanks to them , we know our last experience was maybe a poor ward environment and not the norm .
Again , thanks to all , we really appreciate your warm , kind approach . Everything that the QEUH should be proud of in their staff team .
