"One of the most horrific experiences I have ever had"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Emergency Medicine

(as the patient),

I had a termination procedure 4 weeks ago, and had complications, resulting in visits to the ward and then a visit to A&E following incredibly heavy bleeding.

This is about that visit to A&E. I was being treated by a very lovely doctor who was an A&E trainee, but had to be examined, so the A&E consultant came in to do the vaginal examination.

This examination was one of the most horrific experiences I have ever had with the NHS. This consultant had no bedside manner, was rough with my examination, and never warned me about putting the speculum, hands etc into me, leaving me feeling violated and horrified over the whole situation.

I was not happy to stay at the hospital even though I should have been admitted and signed an against medical advise (AMA) to be able to leave.

Dear JanPC88

As the Chief Nurse for Dr Grays Hospital, I wanted to thank you for getting in touch and detailing your recent experience when attending the A&E department.

I am so sorry to read that the examination you had has left you feeling violated and horrified. This must be such a difficult time for you and certainly not how we would want anyone to feel after attending any of our services.

In order to gain more information and to provide additional support, I am really keen to speak directly with you if you feel able to do so. Please contact me direct by e mail fiona.robertson2@nhs.scot in the first instance and we can arrange to discuss your concerns further.

With kind regards

Fiona
