This is a minor issue in the otherwise excellent Lanark Health centre, but between appointments (for someone else) on Tuesday, I pushed into the ladies loo and was basically blinded for 20 minutes afterwards.
The centre has installed some type of UV lighting to discourage drug abuse, and it may even be safe if it is left on. But I walked into a dark toilet, flicked the light switch, and this grotesque lighting flashed a few times then came on. And, of course, I automatically looked into it in surprise. It was like a Dr Who set, and I did not linger; but back outside I had the imprint of that ghastly flashing on my retina.
It was like being blinded by a laser pen. I was seeing fluorescent bars and stars across my vision for a good 20 minutes, and I was still unsettled when I left an hour later. I would have been unable to drive in that initial 20 minutes.
I am a carer in my sixties, and no snowflake, but that was shocking. I understand the centre has problems with drug users, but there must be better ways of dealing with that than hurting random OAPs.
If the lighting has to stay, there should be a warning on the door; and it should be left on, so no-one is walking into darkness then hit by UV flashes. It really is brutal.
