"We would like to thank everyone"

About: Cancer Services Ninewells Hospital / Breast Surgery Trauma & orthopaedics / Ward 7 - Elective Surgery

(as a relative),

I am writing on behalf of my mum who has been under NHS tayside breast care service since September 2022 when breast cancer was diagnosed by Mr Vinci. Initial treatment was with medication with a plan for surgery once additional health concerns of greater priority had been addressed. Once the breast team had the all clear to operate things moved quickly and smoothly. Appointments were when expected and we have always been able to speak to one of the breast care nurses for support and advice when we have needed to, both pre and post surgery. Most of our contact has been with nurse Emma who has been very kind and supportive and has offered good advice.

My mum greatly appreciated Mr Vinci’s kind and reassuring manner. She felt she was in safe and experienced hands and was pleased when continuity of care was possible and it was Mr Vinci she met with. On a couple of occasions my mum was reviewed by other medics and although we understand why this may be necessary at times it would have been her preference to see the same medic throughout her journey. My mum was very pleased to learn Mr Vinci was to carry out her operation (mastectomy and sentinel lymph node removal and biopsy). The operation in May in PRI went well and she returned home that same day. She had a follow up appointment 13 days post surgery with Mr Vinci, it was reassuring to be seen so quickly to find out results and follow up plan.

We could not fault the care and attention of all ward 7, PRI staff and theatre staff. We found PRI to be a calm and clean environment, which was appreciated and made this difficult experience easier.

My mum has a clear and comprehensive follow up plan. Whilst this part of her journey is not quite over we are confident it will go smoothly and be made as easy as possible by the team.

We would like to thank everyone we came into contact with at Ninewells and PRI and let you know how much we have appreciated your care and professionalism.
