"The great reassuring and personal way"

About: Belfast City Hospital / Gastroenterology Oncology / Physical Activity Classes

(as the patient),

I had major surgery in October 2022, when my stomach had to be removed because of cancer and earlier this year I was contacted by Joe to take part in a Video Group Meeting Programme to do some exercises in order to help my recovery. From the very outset, I felt very tuned in to the amazing way in which he dealt with the group and provided great instructions and advice and guidance regarding the exercises which he did with us. Also, it was very reassuring that, as the weeks went by, Joe was very much up to date and aware of any difficulty I had regarding certain movements, particularly of my arm but he was extremely reassuring and complimentary about my progress and every video link felt very personal and gave me great confidence to continue with Joe's suggested movements and exercises. Any comment that I would make at this stage would definitely be very thankful to Joe for his dedicated help and advice. The outcome for me is certainly positive and I do feel that I have made great progress in my recovery which is largely due to these video links with Joe.

To sum up this comment, I firstly feel that Joe deserves huge congratulations for the amazing work that he is doing and for the very personal and sensitive way in which he dealt with me and I'm sure similarly with all the other participants. Then I would like to wish him all the best for his continued work with people like me who are doubtlessly going to feel such an improvement in their state of health and very much appreciative of the great reassuring and personal way in which he appears to deal with each individual.

I would most definitely recommend contact with Joe for any patient who needs such wonderful help with his or her recovery.

Dear Joseph656,

Thank you for taking the time to post about your experiences of the physical activity programme with Joe, the Friends of the Cancer Centre Physical Activity coach. I am delighted that you found the classes so beneficial and personalised.

I will pass on your kind words to Joe and the rest of the physiotherapy team here in the Cancer Centre.

Best wishes,

Bernie
