"My experience in ward 7 was awesome"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Respiratory Medicine (Ward 7)

(as the patient),

In April 2023 I attempted to take my own life. After being in A&E for a few hours I was taken to the ambulatory care unit and then up to ward 7.

The nurses in ward 7 could not have been any nicer to me. They sat with me multiple times and gave me pep talks upon pep talks. I honestly felt so safe and comforted there and that helped my mental health a lot. They sat and listened to me rant about everything and they never once judged me. They reassured me and made me actually want to get help for my depression.

Also a little side note, they honestly gave me some of the best hugs I’ve ever had and I’ll forever be grateful for them. They’ve actually inspired me to become a nurse so now I’m applying for a course in college and hopefully one day I’ll be a nurse. I want to help people the way they helped me. They’ve inspired me to keep living and to not give up.

I can’t express in words how much I appreciate them and how much they’ve affected me in the 2 weeks I was there. I wish more than anything that I could tell them how much their kindness and support means to me because it’s one of the reasons I’m trying to get better.

So to Janice, Megan, Ruth, Diana and all of the other nurses in ward 7 I hope one day I’ll be able to thank you for being there for me during my two weeks there. I appreciate you guys more than anything. Thank you :)

Dear Pincusion

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience of being in ward 7 at University Hospital Wishaw. This must have been a very stressful time for you. I am glad to hear that while you were in the ward the staff listened to you and supported you and did not make you feel you were being judged in any way. I am pleased to hear that you found your chats with the nurses helpful and reassuring. It is good that you felt safe and comforted and I will be delighted to let the staff know that they helped you to feel better and that you enjoyed and appreciated their great hugs as much as their words.

I will be delighted to pass on your kind words to Janice, Ruth, Megan and Diana and all the others and let them know that you appreciated their kindness and support and that its not only helping you to get better but also has inspired you to further your training and that you now have plans to be a nurse yourself one day, well done to you!

I hope you are continuing to keep well and I wish you good luck in your next steps.
