My mum was diagnosed with cancer in March and we were told life span would be short. From then on we felt totally supported. All the Girvan services were able to be contacted and kept me fully up to date with my mums care. The district nurses and caters helped keep her at home for as long as possible.
The Occupational Therapist, Julie, was my main point of contact and she gave advice throughout each stage of my mums illness and deterioration, contacting my mums doctor and her main Health care professional, Craig, the advanced Paramedic professional with the GP practice. He in turn kept me up to date with the best Medical advice for my mum and kept her mostly pain free and able to be as independent in her home as possible.
When it came to the End of life care my Mum was taken in to Davidson Ward at Girvan community hospital, where she was put on a Syringe driver and slept comfortably until she passed Yesterday. Emma ( the charge nurse) team were fantastic, from the nurses to the assistants took care of the families needs and comforts, nothing was a trouble to them.
The whole Team, including the largely forgotten domestics, made a very sad and difficult time bearable.
I know my mum was grateful too and we can’t thank everyone enough. Davidson ward at Girvan Community Hospital doesn’t get the credit it deserves, carrying out personal care close to home and taking time with patients to tend to their needs whenever possible.
