About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital / Endoscopy

Today I had a colonoscopy procedure performed at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. I was a little anxious and worried, more about what they'll find than of the procedure. Being of a rather embarrassing nature I found the staff, nurses and doctors to be very calming and welcoming. Extremely professional and really helped me settle down and relax. The reception staff were excellent.  The nurse doing the pre checks (Gillian I think), was very good. Talked to me in a very calming and compassionate way, very reassuring and polite when talking about sensitive issues.

I was taken to a room to change, everything was explained to me at every stage. I opted for gas and air instead of sedation.

Another nurse, came and fetched me through to the operating room.

They settled me on the bed and got me ready. The clinician who was performing the procedure talked to me and told me what was going to happen, that it could be very painful and the nurses will help me at any point. 

The procedure was painful and uncomfortable, I had a little gas and air and was OK.

Afterwards, it was told what had been found and what was going to happen next. This was very good as it didn't leave me worrying about the results. The clinician was very plain and direct about what she had found, for which I found it extremely helpful.

The whole experience was excellent. Very professional,  courteous, respectful and compassionate all the way through.  At no point was I left feeling alone or lost about the procedure. A real credit to Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
