"My dad's experience"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Stroke care General practices in Forth Valley Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Cardiology & Coronary Care Unit

(as a relative),

My dad had a heart attack and was transferred to Edinburgh Hospital for an angiogram, where they discovered the artery was too blocked to inflate balloon.

After this procedure my dad let doctor and numerous nurses know he had numbness and double vision, to which they replied they had never had this before and none of them were concerned.

Over the next couple of days in hospital he continued to say he still had same and no concern from them. He was sent home with medication and an angina spray for the chest pain he was still getting in hope that he would get back in for angiogram to be done successfully with possibility of drill.

However on his return home my mum discovered medication was missing and he was actually discharged with none of us really been explained fully what was happening other than letters for the doctor on next step. There was medication missing which I think is a disgrace considering he has just had a heart attack.

My mum called Edinburgh Hospital to find out what was going on and why medication was missing and they said they would call back. She is still waiting!

Meanwhile my dad went to optician as it was still numb and double vision, he was sent straight to eye hospital and they sent him straight to Larbert, where he is currently at with suspected mini stroke!

I am absolutely disgusted by how he has been treated, and to make matters worse when he called the local doctor to get the medication he should be on he got told to call back tomorrow!! He has just had a heart attack. Shocking is an understatement.

Hi perseuscz96

I am so sorry to hear of your dad's experience, when you contacted your local GP for advice and support. It is always difficult for staff to hear that we have let our patients and families down at what can be an extremely difficult time and for this I apologise.

To enable me to take this further and gather information, I would like to offer you the opportunity to contact myself on either tel 01324 566162 or by email caroline.logan@nhs.scot.

I hope your dad is recovering and feeling better.

Kind regards

Caroline
