"Thank you to all the wonderful nurses who have helped and supported us!"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Dalhousie Ward

(as a parent/guardian),

I can not sing the praises of all the staff on the Dalhousie ward. They have all been so warm and welcoming to us during our stay. They have offered fantastic support and reassurance to myself as a parent and our feeding journey.

I have to make a few special mentions to some stand out support we received.

The charge nurse Nicola was so reassuring to us when we were admitted. Her patience is incredible when I was asking her 101 questions about my little boy and when showing me how to use the breast pump. I was scared of the hospital grade pump and its powerful suction.

Becky who was on night shift during our first few nights made me feel at ease and relaxed despite being in hospital and worrying about my wee boy. She could see my desperation to get him to sleep in his own space and was so supportive in helping me to encourage him into his own space despite my sleep deprivation. Everything she has done to help has resulted in 2 nights in his own space in the hospital which should be easily transferable when we get home.

Morgan is an absolute stand out and what the NHS should strive to achieve when supporting breastfeeding mums. Through her own personal experience and struggles she has given invaluable advice and changed our feeding journey in a day. We’ve gone from frustrated and just getting by to a solid plan that should be manageable once we are home. It is understandable why not everyone has her knowledge of feeding and the struggles but there needs to be more Morgans, especially out in the community. I think if there was more support in the community then it should prevent more admissions due to feeding issues. I cannot thank her enough!

Thank you again to all the wonderful nurses who have helped and supported us during our stay!

Dear funnyyz65,

Thank you so much for providing such lovely feedback about the Dalhousie Ward via Care Opinion. It was a truly lovely story to read and the staff will be so pleased to receive such positive feedback.

From Charge Nurse Nicola to Becky and Morgan, it sounds like they have managed to make you and your little boy’s stay a very supportive one around his sleep patterns and supporting you both with your feeding journey. I am glad that you feel that you also have plans in place that can be easily transferred to home life once you are discharged.

Please be assured we have shared your feedback with the team at Dalhousie Ward and as I said they will be delighted to read it.

I wish you both well in your ongoing journey.

Claire
