"The care my elderly mother received"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Emergency Department Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Older people's healthcare South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / NHS 111

(as a carer),

The 111 phone service was contacted by me regarding deterioration of my mother, who is in my care at my home.

After describing symptoms with 111, it was decided by the call handler to order a category 1 ambulance.  The crew were diverted to us, arriving within 15 minutes, where they were both professional and good.

We travelled quickly to Treliske hospital, Truro, whereupon my mother (in her 99th year) received excellent care and professional attention both from A&E staff and further ambulance crews over approximately 7 hours until a ward bed was located for my mother.

My mother continued receiving excellent care and attention throughout her stay at the hospital right up until I was able to return her to our home - where she continues to make slow, steady progress.

I am particularly happy with the treatment and care given by all staff at this hospital toward a lady in such mature years.

Good morning Another Cornishman

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us. I'm sorry for the delay in replying to you on here.

I am so pleased to see that your mother received such excellent care and professional attention from the teams she saw after a quick travel to the hospital. I am also pleased to see that the excellent care and attention continued during her stay and that she was able to return home. I hope that your mother is doing well.

I am writing to you as a member of the Patient Experience team but, I will ensure that your kind words are shared with the team at the Emergency Department.

Thank you, again, for taking the time to share your story with us.

Thank you

Megan

Good afternoon

Apologies for the delay in responding to your story but thank you so much for providing us with feedback on the service your mother received, it is much appreciated! We are so glad to hear that she was well looked after, though I am sorry that you both had to experience this at all.

For confidentiality, your patient information is redacted on this platform and so we cannot find the details of your incident, we would love to pass your message onto the Ambulance crew who attended you and so, if you would be willing to share some additional information, please could you email compliments@swast.nhs.uk with your name, date the ambulance arrived, address and thank you message, we will then ensure this is passed onto to the relevant crew.

Thank you again for taking the time to feedback and we hope your mother is recovering well!

Kindest regards,

Sami
