"Local Health Centre"

About: General Practices in Grampian

(as a service user),

I find my local health centre is appalling. Once you get to a GP they are reasonably decent, but first you need to navigate the reception admin staff. Regardless of medical experience they decide whether you get to see a medical professional. In the past I’ve presented with sepsis and been turned away.

Today I have been trying to get a sickline, which I requested 5 days ago. I’ve had major surgery and am recovering, driving is a problem right now, and you’d think being able to have the sickline emailed would be a boon. No, this surgery has been experiencing IT difficulties for over a month and still haven’t contacted NHS IT support. That’s how this practice rolls.

I’m now getting a lift to collect my sickline, then being driven a 60 mile round trip to deliver it in time for payroll.

Be very aware if you join this practice you cannot expect efficiency, empathy or even correct medical assessment.

Once it was a good practice, no longer sadly.

Dear Clairebear,

I'm sorry to hear you are having continual problems contacting your GP surgery, I know how extremely frustrating this is when you're already feeling unwell.

It would be helpful to be able to share this with directly with the GP practice. Most of the GP Practices in Grampian are independently run and aren’t registered to respond to feedback received via Care Opinion. They don’t routinely access the feedback either so the practice won’t see this without it going straight to them.

If you don’t feel comfortable doing this (I recognise from your post how hard it has been for you to communicate with them), I can forward your story anonymously, but I’d need you to share the practice name with me directly. If you’d like me to do that I can be contacted on email: kirsten.dickson@nhs.scot or by text/phone: 07885720267. Help is also available to share your concerns with the GP Practice from the Patient Advice and Support Service (PASS). PASS are an independent service offering free and confidential advice and they can be contacted on 0800 917 2127, or for more information please go to www.patientadvicescotland.org.uk

Take care,

Kirsten
