"Support to get the help I need."

About: Hounslow IAPT

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I have been helped to post this story by my housing support worker who is trying to help me get treatment as well as supporting me with my housing situaution.

I suffer from Psychosis and hear voices. It impacts severely on my daily life, preventing me from managing day to day to make appointments etc. I am being helped to apply for a passport to use as I.D. Get gas supply put on and Apply for extra Benefits I am  entitled to. I need to address the severe hoarding issue in his home. The list goes on.

I hear voices that give me  so much hell. Make life so miserable they cause me to  withdraw.

I really need support and am ready to talk about what is happening in my head.  The GP was so helpful. She gave me all the time the appt required. She really listened.  I think if I talk about my voices, bad things happen so was therefore stressed at thought of telling her. She said she understood but also bottling it up is also going to make bad things happen.

I felt that I had been holding on for so long. So many layers of grief, stress, hardship. Bottled up. The GP praised and thanked me for being open and honest, she explained that it helped her to understand my problems.

She said she would do a referral to Hounslow East, Brentford Lodge. I forgot to let my worker know who was going to attend and support me.  I  forgot and went by myself.  They did  listenen but declined my request for Therapy and would only offer anti-depressants. I dont want pills I want to talk. They declined.

My worker was not happy when they heard this and would have challenged this decision.  At least offer anti-depressants whilst waiting for Therapy. But to decide someone cant have it ? On advice, I was advised to go back to the GP and ask her to do a referral for Therapy. The irony is that, apparently, according to the website, Hounslow East MINT, Brentford Lodge, is a promotor of IAPT.   My support worker has said they will continue to support me until I get the support I need.
