"Cataract surgery - the op was a breeze"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Cataract Unit

(as the patient),

Staff were super great. I was stressing  not so much about op but more the fact face was going to be covered [just a bit claustrophobic]. It probably didn't help that I accepted a cancellation so only 10 days notice, but it meant I'd not had a clinical appointment to voice my fears; a 5 min chat phone call with a doctor didn't really allay any fear I had. So maybe this could have been clarified a bit earlier in more detail.

On the day once I explained to staff they were really helpful a putting my mind at ease and the op was a breeze.  So to all staff in cataract unit at the Queen Margaret, D'line a 10+ for all your help on the day.

Dear Archeryi,

I am sorry that you were anxious about the drape covering your face during the procedure and that the discussion with the consultant didn't help reduce your anxieties. This is something that we have been discussing over recent weeks on how we can show patients how this would be on the day of surgery.

I am pleased that the staff were able to put your mind at ease on the day and that the operation was a breeze. I will share with the team that they are a 10+! This is lovely to hear.

Kind regards

Stacey Arnott

Update posted by archeryi (the patient)

Thanks so much for your helpful reply.

I think my concerns would maybe have been addressed if I'd had a clinical appointment pre surgery rather than a phone appointment, but it is a sign of the times we live in with delays and long waiting times.

However it was my decision to accept a cancellation appointment with short notice [did give me less time to worry over it] and so glad I did vision improved greatly.

Again a big thank you to all staff on the day.
