I am the other side of a procedure called ablation for which I had been on a waiting list. I was very apprehensive to put it mildly, the day before. A cancellation had meant it was short notice. As soon as I entered the Coronary Intervention Unit, I felt safe. There was an atmosphere of calm and the nurses were there for each patient every step of the way. The Consultant explained everything and answered any queries. I knew I was able to leave all the worries to them and allow myself to be carried through and immediately stopped being so nervous.
When it was my turn, I was wheeled into the cath lab - there was levity and some laughter. All would be well. I came round and with relief, realised it was all over. I had to lie for two hours and the nurses were amazing, looking after my every need and one step ahead of them. I felt quite euphoric when I was finally discharged. What an outstanding bunch of people - so compassionate, empathic and caring. We need to recognise how lucky we are to have the NHS and how selfless and invaluable are our doctors and nurses. I am full of gratitude and appreciation for all the care I received from the porters, the secretary, the receptionist, the student nurse, the nursing staff, the lab technicians, the radiographers, the anaesthetist to the Consultant and if I had to have the same procedure tomorrow, I would not be at all anxious as I felt totally safe in their hands. Thank you.
