"The importance of empathy in the nurse - patient relationship"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as a service user),

Today I attended a smear test appointment at my GP surgery. Although a routine appointment I was apprehensive both as a menopausal woman and also because this important screening picked up a polyp last time. I need not have been. The care I received before during and after the test was fantastic.

The smear was carried out by Practice Nurse Leigh. Leigh was professional, knowledgeable, friendly and empathic - I felt  so at ease. She gathered my worries, listened and was empathetic. During the test she was kind and patient.

Thank you Leigh

Calderside Medical Practice within Blantyre Health Centre are very lucky to have such a skilled practitioner:)

Dear cygnuswp84,

Thank you for sharing your experience on Care Opinion of nurse Leigh at your GP practice.

I am pleased to hear you that you have received an excellent service, especially in these busy and challenging times. It is always worrying to attend an appointment for a procedure and I am pleased to hear you felt at ease throughout.

GP’s are independent contractors and are sadly not registered to respond directly to feedback through Care Opinion. I will be more than happy to pass on your thanks and kind words to the staff.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
