"Useful coping mechanisms"

About: Parent Support Link

(as a parent/guardian),

I contacted PSL after years of trying to cope with a loved one who suffers with drug use and a long term mental health condition. Everything became completely overwhelming and after reaching breaking point I realised that I needed professional help. I am so glad that I finally reached out to PSL.

I initially attended 1 to 1 counselling sessions with Kim at The New Forest Support Group who gave me the support and confidence to move forward.

For the last 3 years I have been attending her monthly group meetings as often as I can. Here I have been able to share my thoughts and feelings with other people who have had similar experiences. This whole process has been a journey which has enabled me to accept things and given me the coping mechanisms to move forward with my life.

Thank you PSL.

Hi Jenn24,

Thank you for sharing your story with us.

It's great to hear how you have benefitted from attending the support groups and feel you have received the support needed to cope with what is happening around you.

Having the courage to reach out and ask for support is a big thing to do and not easy so well done Jenn24 as we do understand how difficult this can be.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience and we hope you continue to receive the support that you need.

Take care.
