"The confidence of the staff shone through"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / General Surgery General practices in Ayrshire & Arran

(as the patient),

On a Monday I experiened severe stomach pains, which subsided after a few hours.  I remained un well for the remainder of the week not realizing the seriousness of my condition.

On the Friday my condition worsened and I contacted my GP, left my details and shortly thereafter was telephoned by a Dr. Stewart who asked me to attend the surgery for an examination an hour later.  After the examination the Dr. asked me to attend Ward 4C ,Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock.

I immediately went there and was seen very quickly and after tests it was found that I had gallstones and the gall bladder was badly infected.  I was attmitted to Ward 4A and treatment began immediatly. The pain subsided greatly overnight and the Consultant, Dr. Cutjar suggested that best thing to do was to remove my gall bladder.  This subsequently happened on the Sunday. The operation went well but unfortunately my stomach closed down and I required further treatment during the night and at this time it was discovered that I also had an ecoli infection.

Further treatment was administered and I made slow recovery till my release 10 days later.  During my stay in the hospital and at the GP surgery, I was treated with respect and felt everyone involved performed their duties professionally and with great care.  Everything that was done seemed to happen very quickly.  I observed how the staff at the hospital worked extremely hard and they never seemed to get any breaks in their duties.  The food at the hospital was of a very high standard.  I would not like to name anyone in particular but there were several persons who performed their duties far in excess of what was required making me feel safe.  The confidence of the staff also shone through.

The only slight critiscism I could make was that when my treatment was concluded I had to wait several hours to receive my prescribed medicines before I could leave.

Dear Jimbo68

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your healthcare experience via Care Opinion following your admission to University Hospital Crosshouse.

I am delighted to hear that you received such kind, professional and compassionate care from all of our staff and it was my pleasure to share your correspondence with the Teams who would have cared for you whilst you were in hospital to give recognition for their exemplary care and treatment.

I would also like to share your feedback with your GP practice. To enable me to do this, I would be most grateful if you could provide me with your practice details, either by response on Care Opinion or via aa.patientexperienceteam@aapct.scot.nhs.uk

With all best wishes for your ongoing recovery, and my thanks once again for taking the time to acknowledge your care experience.

Kind Regards

Pamela
