"I think it needs a more modern approach"

About: Cloughreagh House

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

When I was told I was coming to Cloughreagh House I was petrified because in my book it is a Nursing Home and I didn’t feel old enough to come here as I am only in my sixties. Because I’m a young person I felt embarrassed by being in a Nursing Home and I didn’t tell my friends where I was.

I think it needs to be revamped as a rehabilitation service and aptly renamed. I think it needs a more modern approach with bedrooms and bed linen modernised. The furniture needs to be compact and minimalistic. The bed linen should be more homely with bright colours and patterns.

It would also be great to have a room designed as a gym to go to within the building to exercise and maybe talk to the other service users who are in the same boat and requiring a rehab service. If I ever have to come back, either as a service user or a visitor, I would like to see the home has moved on, a rehabilitation unit needs to look more modern and more inviting, offering an encouraging environment to exercise in.

I also feel visiting should be more flexible in the evening and extended to 8 pm in the evening allowing for people who are working.

The staff were very nice and supportive to me, and I did feel that I benefited from the physio exercises and advice.

Thank you for taking the time to post this comprehensive feedback. I am glad you did benefit from the service even though you were anxious and embarrassed about coming to Cloughreagh.

As part of a Quality Improvement Project and feedback from other Service Users we are in the process of redesigning the service to ensure it meets the needs of all Service Users who access it. We are working very closely with the Quality Improvement Team and Intermediate Care team to potentially create a rehab room where Service Users will attend to complete their rehab programme. We are also in the process of reviewing and updating our information leaflet, this will be done in consultation with all the relevant stakeholders and service users to wish to be involved.

We are currently working with our Estate Services team to ensure all the necessary works are undertaken to modernize the facility. As discussed with you prior to your discharge we totally value your feedback and would appreciate your input.

Our visiting protocol is kept under regular review depending what is happening in the facility. We are more than happy to discuss on an individual basis what visiting plan works for each Service user.

Thank you again for your feedback, on behalf of the team in Cloughreagh House we wish you a speedy recovery.

If you would like to participate in our Quality Improvement Project please contact Cloughreagh House.

Kind regards

Kate Mc Beth
