"This is an outstanding service"

About: Older People’s Services / Hospital at Home Northern Sector

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

Letter received from wife of patient from Limavady area

Dear Dr Todd,

Yet again we are indebted to the tremendous support and professional input of the Acute Care at Home service for Older People.  Due to this very effective way of freeing up beds in hospital, my husband was able to be treated at home in December 2022 with great success.  This hospital ward at home service was invaluable while he was so ill.

I especially want to commend the sensitive and honest conversations Dr Todd, Dr Khan and nurse Donall had with me as they assessed and treated my husband's critical condition.  Thankfully because of Acute Care intervention, he is now restored to the level of health that he had before this last acute infection.

The physiotherapist's input was also very helpful and her follow up phone call after discharge was really appreciated and summed up the excellent care and support of the whole Acute Care team.

This is an outstanding service which meets the present demand to keep hospital beds free by providing this excellent service in the community-surely one way to alleviate the present bed crisis is to expand this service.  Yours sincerely

Thank you very much for this very positive feed back

We are a multi disciplinary Team and each member brings excellent expertise for the good of our patients.

I am very glad for your relative and yourself that we were able to help at a very difficult time. I am very glad that your husband is now feeling better.

Yes I agree that when possible Virtual wards in the community are an excellent way to manage older peoples health needs. I hope in the future that our team grows so that more people in your husbands situation may benefit from such care.

I will share your kind comments with the Team.

Regards Sr O Hara
