I attended A&E at the Victoria Hospital 3 weeks ago as I had an episode of loss of speech and respiratory problems. From the moment I stepped in the door, my treatment was outstanding .
I was triaged very quickly by a wonderful nurse called Gemma , consummate professional and quickly made me feel calmer. I was then seen by a Dr. Oliver, who ordered a barrage of tests. The department was extremely busy, but I was looked after and checked up on at regular intervals. I was given various meds and pain relief by staff nurse Lauren, who explained everything and made me really comfortable.
I had a little wait until I was admitted to Medical Admissions Ward. Again, exemplary care given by all the staff - a special mention to advanced nurse practitioner Fran, who explained lots of things to me. The ward was extremely busy, with admissions and discharges day and night, but nothing was too much trouble! Not once, despite the staff being run off their feet, did I receive anything but exemplary care .
I had CT scan, X-rays, bloods, etc, all carried out. I was also introduced to a respiratory nurse who was incredible and set up various outpatient clinics I am now attending. Just back from Pulmonary Rehab introduction, again outstanding. All these people are doing the job of two hospitals with half the staff. Looks as though I have suffered a TIA with respiratory complications. It was a frightening episode, but made so much easier with all these professionals looking out for me.
Despite the pressure these amazing individuals are under, I doubt I would have received any better care anywhere else. I feel very, very blessed to have had this calibre of expertise and care. Can’t thank them all enough. I will have omitted to mention everyone I came into contact with. The charge nurse was a credit to the unit also. Thank you each and every one of you for your outstanding care and compassion.Outwardly, I probably came across as calm, but I was really quite frightened . Many thanks again, you made a horrible episode much more bearable.
