"Disappointed in the care"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Outpatient Services

(as a relative),

My son had an operation, he was a morning case and went home the same day. All staff were lovely, especially the play therapist, really put my little boy's nerves at ease, especially with him being autistic. Everything went smoothly and calmed my nerves when he was put off to sleep.

The only issue I have is my boy wasn't offered anything to drink, neither were the other outpatients, and when he came around he was so hungry. Luckily, I bought snacks from home because he wasn't offered anything to eat either.

It felt very rushed, and it felt like they wanted us to just go home, very disappointed in the care we were, given he's only 10 years old.

Dear jazzqb83,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us, please firstly accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you on here. I am glad that the staff you came into contact with were lovely, especially the Play Therapist who was able to put your little boys' nerves at ease meaning everything went smoothly when he came in for his operation.

I was saddened however to read about your little boy not being offered food or drink when he came around from his operation, leaving you feeling disappointed in the care you received. I believe you would have been seen on Harlyn ward here at the Trust, so I have shared your feedback with the team so they can reflect on your son's experience and make improvements where possible.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback.

Best wishes,

Jess
