About: Royal Oldham Hospital

Massive thank you to all doctors ,nurses and porters..... After recent bad TV reports about A&E departments I would like to comment on our recent experience. My father age 91 years was admitted to Oldham A & E on a Saturday night on 11/5/13 after suffering a stroke. I would like to say how wonderful all staff were during the whole of his stay. He was treated upon arrival and monitored and checked by various doctors and nurses who were all very professional but caring and friendly despite few drunks & abusive patients demanding urgent treatment also disturbing other patients who were attended to. He was later transferred to a bed in G1 stroke unit where again all staff were extremely helpful and caring. Unfortunately the scanner was out of order so he was taken to Fairfield Hospital for a scan. Again the care & treatment he received was excellent. My father had surgery and was transferred to HDU unit followed by stay in T3 Ward and then back to G1 stroke unit. He later told me how wonderful the surgeon, porters and all nurses were who treated him during the procedure. We can't thank you all enough. When I visited him there, all staff was so understanding and helpful with me as I was very concerned about him. They couldn't do enough to help me and my father and I'm so grateful to them all. They were always busy but my father received fantastic treatment from them at all times and they made his stay as pleasant as it possibly could be in hospital. Unfortunately, the media are very quick to remind us of the shortcomings in the service provided by NHS. I am extremely pleased and grateful to be able to confirm that reports such as these are not indicative of Royal Oldham hospital I would be grateful if this comment could be forwarded to the relevant dept as you know it is always good to receive positive feedback when you are carrying out as difficult and challenging role. It is a month ago now and my father is making reasonable progress with help from physio dept at Royal Oldham. I would like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone involved. N.Mistry
