My title was the appalling care at LRI it should have read "The lack of/ what care" why do the people that train to be healthcare workers take up the job when all they want to do is hang around the nurses station, complain about their off duties. When entering the ward one is left standing completely ignored while they carry on with their personal conversation, when noticed your enquire is treated with distain, an interruption inconvienece. Patients are treated no better thanks to their lack of care. I too had the same treatment when having chemo, I was very ill rushed to the bathroom How many came to see if I was OK,How many offered me an anti sickness tablet or enquired how I was none but for the next half hour they stood around the nurses station moaning about their off duties. (as above). The doctors were no better white coat stethoscope and clipboard don't interrupt their nconversation nothing to do with their ward round- thats right presonal. Bring back the old nurses who were passionate about their work- no it wasn't work it was thier calling that is to care for people. Maybe they didnt have a degree but they had much more compassion this much more than learning. Don't keep saying this is because we are short staffed, this has always been the case - start working efficiently do it, dont write about it. Nursing ( nurses not health care workers ) is a practical job not a written exercise, oh yes that applies to the drs too. To finish there are good people working at the hospitals unfortunately not enough.
