"Ward 42 Lincoln Wing"

About: St James's University Hospital

Anything else?

I was Re-admitted on monday after being home for around 4 weeks after a Hernia Op and Abscess Draining. The staff in A&E were very friendly and got me on to the Surgical Assessment ward which took around 5 hours for someone to come round and tell me what was going to happen. I was then admitted onto ward 42 at around 8pm being told i could go down and get all my pain relief through IV. I then arrived down at ward 42 had to wait 2 hours to receive my Canular. It then took another hour to receive my fluids, and didn't receive my pain relief until the following morning when the matron came round to settle a complaint i had put in the day before. My consultant came round on the tuesday morning and all plans were changed for me i was told i would be put on a list for a CT that i would receive that day at some point. That did not happen at 6pm during night time visiting i decided to go home as i was sick of waiting. The nurses were funny about taking my canular out. This wasn't my first visit like this to St James. Each time i have had to stay in St James i have found that there is a lack of compassion and a lack of communication, and had to get PALS involved. I completely understand that they are under staffed but if they just told you what was going on rather than just making stuff up it wouldn't be as bad. I hope that if there is a next time i visit St James i wont end up doing this and will enjoy my stay more.
