I have BPD, depression and disassociation. I was having very bad experiences with the treatment I was receiving, I was unaware of my rights, I felt like I wasn't being listened to, I didn't know where to turn and at the point of giving up.
I rang ASC and worked with Babs at my advocate. My treatment through mental health services left me feeling ashamed, embarrassed and judged. My advocate helped me feel my opinions and views are really important and valid.
Prior to using advocacy made me feel like a freak. Since using advocacy I feel less a freak and less critical and more positive and and in control over my diagnoses, and about managing my treatment.
With help from my advocate I feel more able to speak up for myself and less intimidated in meetings about my treatment. Even though it's been hard I've found me and my advocate can laugh and smile which makes it less stressful.
"My advocate helped me feel my opinions and views are really important and valid. "
